Listed below are some areas of concern that I can help you address in individual therapy. This is not an exhaustive list, but are some of the most common struggles of people I see. Individual sessions are typically 53 minutes, though we can discuss other time options if deemed appropriate for your situation.
Depression, irritability, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable feelings that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, I can help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life, or that you may yet discover. If you choose medication or any other form of treatment as part of your wellness plan, I will contact your provider(s) with your written consent for a collaborative approach.
Trauma and PTSD - Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, reactivity, numbness, dissociation, and hopelessness are just some examples of what can linger post traumatic events. I can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
Grief - A persistent sense of loss can come from many sources: death, divorce or the ending of a relationship, unemployment, a new diagnosis or ailment, even surgery, among others. If you are struggling to feel whole after such a loss, I can support you in your grief process. It takes time, intention, and courage, but healing does happen.
Substance Overuse - If you find yourself using substances more often or in more amounts than you've intended, or in situations that have caused negative effects, please consider therapy and/or a support group to prevent this from worsening. Overusing causes damage to relationships and your health, whether you are dependent on them or not, and changing use patterns can seem impossible if done by yourself.
Relationships - It is common to have miscommunications and/or misunderstandings in any relationship. Therapy sessions provide a supportive place with a non-biased listener to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationships. While I do not provide couples' counseling, you can consider bringing in a significant other for couples-assisted sessions at times if deemed appropriate.
I have facilitated various groups both individually and with a co-facilitator. Some examples include: substance abuse recovery, relapse prevention, music therapy, expressive arts therapy, Gestalt awareness, healing from trauma, and anxiety groups. I do not currently have open groups due to the pandemic, but look forward to offering them in the future.
I am an approved provider for Somatic Experiencing sessions at the beginning and intermediate levels at this time. I will update this website as soon as that changes. My charge for these sessions is on a sliding scale from $95-$125, or for scholarship recipients, $65 each.
